Requirements and Procedure for Admission:

Application for admission to the college is to be made in the prescribed forms available along with the prospectus. College prospectus is issued immediately after the announcement of HSLC/HS results. One should carefully read the prospectus before filling up the forms. The admission forms can be detached from the prospectus and completely filled up form is to be submitted to the college office on the notified date. Admission to the college and hostels is strictly on merit and subject to approval of the principal. There is reservation for SC, ST and OBC students as per government of Assam regulations. There is sport and music quota for admission into various classes (the exact number of seats is determined by the admission committee). Students with outstanding quality in such fields may apply to the principal directly in a plain sheet of paper with all supporting documents and certificates.

NB :

  1. The Assam govt. and the Dibrugarh University Roles are strictly followed in the B.A. Admission.
  2. The dates of document verification for admission to various classes are notified in advance. A list of eligible candidates for admission will be put up on the college notice board before the day of interview.
  3. Students who are admitted on sports and music quota will have to sow their performances as and when necessary failing which their admission will be cancelled. Document verification and admission will take place on the same day.

The candidates will have to be present personally in the following documents and papers:

  1. Original/provisional pas certificates from the head of the institution last attended.
  2. Certificate of date of birth
  3. Mark sheets (original)
  4. Gap period certificate from appropriate persons, if required.
  5. Required amount of fees etc.

The college reserves the right to deny admission to any one without giving any reason.

Results and Progression of B.A. Programmes:

a) A candidate shall be declared as passes a course, provided he/ she secures-

  1. At least 40% marks in each course in the end semester examinations.
  2. At least 40% marks in each course in aggregate in the in- and end- semester examinations.

b) A candidate shall be declared as passes a semester, provided he/ she pass all the courses of a semester independently.

c) The marks of in-semester examinations obtained by the candidates shall be carried over for declaring any result.

d) A candidate who fails or does not appear in one or more courses of any end semester examinations up to sixth semester shall be provisionally promoted t the next higher semester with the failed course as carry over course(s). such candidates will be eligible to appear in the carry over course in the next regular examinations of those courses. However, the following restrictions shall be applicable:

  1. A candidate shall be entitled to a maximum of three chances to clear a course.
  2. If a candidate clears the sixth semester examination before clearing all the courses of the previous semesters, the result of the sixth semester examinations of the candidate shall be withheld and his/ her results shall be announced only after he/she clears the courses of the previous semesters.

e) A student must pass all his/ her semester examinations within five (5) years from the date of admission to the first semester of any programme.

f) Since the semester system involves continuous assessment, there shall be no scope for a student to appear as a private candidate in any programme in this system.

g) A candidate shall be declared to have passed the six semester degree BA programme provided he/she has passes all the semesters and in all the courses separately.


Examinations and evaluations shall be done a continuous basis by the controller of examination of under Credit based semester system (CBSS).

a) In credit based system. Students are assessed in two parts -

  1. Continuous internal evaluation(CIE)
  2. Semester end examinations (SEE)

Continuous Internal evaluation(CIE) shall be conducted by the course teacher all through the semester; which includes sessional examination I(written); sessional examination II(written); seminar/ group discussion/ home assignment/ sudden test/quiz along with attendance in class. Semester end examination (SEE) will be conducted at the end of the semester, on dates to be fixed at the college level.

b) A student will not be allowed to appear for the end semester examinations unless she fulfills all the following conditions:

  1. She attends at least 80% of the lectures, practical and tutorials in each semester.
  2. She has completed the continuous internal assessment requirement securing the minimum marks required.

c) There shall be 20% marks for internal assessment and 85% narks for end semester examination in each course during every semester.

d) There shall be no provision for re evaluation of the answer scripts of the End semester examination. However a candidate may apply for re-scrutiny.

e) The candidates may be allowed to go through her evaluated answer sheet if found genuine by the college authority through a teacher of that particular course.

f) After the declaration of results of a semester, the controller of examinations Dibrugarh University shall issue a grade card to each of the students. The grade card shall contain the grades obtained in the different courses registered by her, the SGPA, CGPA and the total credits earned so far.


A student who has less than 80% attendance shall not be permitted to sit for the end semester examination in the course in which the shortfall exists. Provided that it shall be open to the university to grant exemption to a student who has attended a minimum of 70% classes but failed to obtain the prescribed 80% attendance for valid reason on recommendation of the head of the department on payment of a prescribed fee(s).

Examinations and examinations rules:

  1. Unit test and sessional examination will be held according to the college routine.
  2. Periodic unit and class room tests in all subjects are held regularly. These are conducted by the respective departments independently.
  3. Attendance in all these college examinations by the student is OBLIGATORY.

Under Graduate Examinations and Evaluation Process:

a) Examination and evaluation shall be done on a continuous and comprehensive basis during each semester.

b) There shall be 20% marks for internal assessment in each course during every semester.

c) There shall be no provision for re evaluation of the answer scripts of the end semester examinations. However, a candidate may apply for re-scrutiny.

d) Internal assessment:

  1. In internal assessment, different tools may be employed one or more assessment tools such as objective tests, written tests, assignments, paper presentation, laboratory work, etc. suitable to the courses.
  2. The students shall be informed in advance about the nature of assessment. Students shall compulsorily attend internal assessment, failing which they will not be allowed to appear for the end semester examination. A student cannot repeat in semester examinations.

e) End semester examination:

  1. There shall be end semester examination carrying 80% marks in each course of a semester covering the entire syllabus prescribed for the course. Semester covering the entire syllabus prescribed for the course.
  2. Normally, the end semester examination for each course shall be of three hour duration.

g) Practical Examination: Practical Examination of a semester shall normally be held prior to the End Semester Examinations.

h) Betterment examination:

  1. A student shall be entitled to take the “betterment examinations” in any two theory courses of any of the six semesters after passing the sixth semester examination only once. In this case, the highest marks secured by the student shall be retained. The candidate shall have to apply for betterment examination within one year of passing to sixth semester examination.
  2. No betterment shall be allowed in the practical examinations.

i) Any difficulty which may arise in the course of operation of these regulations relating to holding of examinations shall be removed by the examination committee of Dhemaji Girls’ College.
